Picks up 200th Win, Titans Sweep Sac State Apr. 14, 2001 Sacramento, Calif. Cal State Fullerton Coach George Horton won his 200th NCAA Division I game as the 14th-ranked Titans beat Sacramento State, 8-2, Saturday to complete a three-game sweep at Hornet Field and extend their winning streak to 12 games. The Titans, who improved to 26-10 overall and 6-0 in Big West Conference play, swept their first two conference series for the fourth straight season. In addition to their 12-game streak, the Titans have won 18 of their last 20 games, with the only two losses coming by single runs. The Hornets fell to 17-22 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Horton, in his fifth season, is now 200-86-1 in his career for a winning percentage of .699. In conference play, Horton has posted a 98-28 record for a .778 percentage. Fullerton outscored the Hornets, 37-9, in the series and outhit them, 38-17. The Titans also got some help from Sac State, which committed 10 errors in the three games and walked 30 batters. Jason Corapci had a career-high four hits and drove in four runs and Fullerton starter Jon Smith improved to 7-0 with the Titans' win on Saturday. Smith allowed just one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work. Charlie Zahari worked a perfect eighth inning and Wes Littleton matched the feat in the ninth. Combined, the Titan staff retired the last 12 batters of the game. Mike Miranda suffered the loss for Sac State and fell to 6-3. The Titans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. David Bacani hit the first pitch of the game into right field for a single. After stealing second base and moving to third on a single by Corapci, Bacani scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Rifkin. The Hornets loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and tied the score, 1-1, when Dave Lusk's sacrifice fly scored Aurelio Jackson from third base Corapci's two-run blast his first home run of the season in the third and a two-out RBI double by Chris Stringfellow increased Fullerton's lead to 4-1. But the Hornets used a pair of wild pitches by Smith to score a run in the bottom of the fourth. The second wild pitch eluded Titan catcher Brett Kay long enough for Chris Kinsey to score all the way from second base. Coracpi led off the fifth with his third hit a single up the middle and scored on Mike Rouse's two-out single to right field. Corapci also came through in the sixth with a two-out, two-run line drive single to center field. The single, which just eluded Jackson in center field, scored Bacani and Guzman, who had both reached with two outs. Rouse hit a line drove home run (his fourth) that cleared the right field fence by about 20 feet in the Titans' half of the seventh inning, extending the Titans' lead to 8-2. The Titans will head back to Southern California for a busy week. Fullerton will travel to Loyola Marymount on Tuesday and host UCLA on Wednesday in a make-up of a rained out game. Fullerton resumes Big West Conference play with a three-game series at Cal State Northridge next weekend. Box score
