Holds off Titan Rally in Ninth to Win 9-8 Feb. 3, 2001 Fullerton, Calif. Chris ORiordan hit a tie-breaking three-run double in the top of the ninth inning and Jason Luker induced a game-ending double play in the bottom of the frame as the 14th-ranked Stanford Cardinal held off No. 15 Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in a nonconference baseball game at Goodwin Field Saturday afternoon. The Titans (1-2), trying to rally in the ninth for the second consecutive day, got a leadoff hit from Louie Lamoure to start the bottom of the ninth, followed by a double by Shane Costa. Lamoure eventually came home on a balk and Costa scored on a RBI single by Robert Guzman. But after Aaron Rifkin was hit by a pitch and Brett Kay walked, Shawn Norris grounded into a game-ending 3-6-3 double play. After Stanford (3-3) took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Fullerton scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and never trailed again until the ninth inning. Guzman, Rifkin and Kay all had RBI hits in the first and David Bacani and Mike Rouse added solo homers later in the game. The Titans had a 6-3 lead heading into the sixth, but Titan reliever Travis Esquibel allowed three runs in the inning, including a leadoff home run by Stanfords Scott Dragicevich. The teams remained knotted at 6-6 until the Cardinal got to Fullertons Chad Cordero in the ninth. Cordero gave up a single to Dragicevich and issued back-to-back walks before ORiordan cleared the bases with two outs. Ryan McCally (1-1) picked up the win, while Luker, who pitched to just two batters, earned his first save. Cordero (1-1), the winner in Fridays game, took the loss for the Titans. The two teams wrap up their three-game series at Goodwin Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. Box score
