TEMECULA VALLEY H.S.: One of four Titan freshmen to have prepped at Temecula Valley H.S. in Temecula, Calif. • Saw time as an outfielder, designated hitter and pitcher, but played primarily first base as a senior • Earned first-team All-Southwestern League, second-team All-CIF and all-state honors his final season, after batting .438 (35-for-80) with a school-record 19 home runs and 46 RBI • Missed most of his junior season with a knee injury, but still batted .423 with a pair of home runs and 11 RBI in just 26 at-bats • A first-team All-Sunbelt League pick as a sophomore, when he batted .440 (33-for-75) with a then-school record seven homers and 33 RBI • Helped his teams to a combined 83-29 record over his four-year stretch and led the Golden Bears to a 26-4 overall record his senior season • In a CIF semifinal game against Long Beach Wilson at Blair Field, he hit two home runs and doubled off the top of the wall in left field • Hit his first high school home run off former Perris H.S. pitcher (and current Titan ace) Jon Smith • Also an all-league and all-county football player.

LEMOORE H.S./AVENAL H.S.: Three-year letterman and three-time All-West Yosemite League selection for Coach Bob Clement at Lemoore H.S. in Lemoore, Calif. • Played at Avenal H.S. in Avenal, Calif. his freshman year •1998 league Player of the Year, three-time first-team pick and twice team’s most valuable player • As a senior, batted .521 with one home run and stole 29 bases in 30 tries • As a junior, hit .489 with four homers • Led team in hitting as a sophomore • Made second-team all-league as a freshman at Avenal • Also played football and basketball.

PERSONAL: Born on Jan. 22, 1980, in Hanford, Calif. • Parents are Richard and Kim Guzman • Has an older sister, Jennifer • Majoring in kinesiology • Favorite major leaguer is Matt Williams • Favorite pro team is the Giants • Most memorable sports moment was a diving catch in the 1999 College World Series • Enjoys wakeboarding • Best advice to kids is to always hustle.
