Titans Picked by Coaches to Win Big West Title Jan. 31, 2002 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton's baseball team has been picked by the nine Big West
Conference baseball coaches as the favorite to win the 2002 conference
title.
In a poll released today by the conference office, the Titans received
seven of nine first-place votes and 79 points overall, eclipsing Long
Beach State, which finished second with 65 votes. Cal State Northridge,
which received the other two first-place votes, was picked third with
62 points.
Fullerton, the three-time defending Big West champs, finished last season
with a 48-18 overall record and a 14-4 conference mark. The Titans advanced
to the College World Series for the 11th time and finished as the consensus
No. 3 team in the country.
The Titans, ranked as high as 10th in the 2002 preseason polls, open the
campaign at No. 1 Stanford on Friday night at 6 p.m. The game will be
aired on KWRM 1370-AM and on Titan Internet Radio.
