Four Future Titans Team up for Connie Mack Title
Aug. 9, 2002 – Farmington, N.M.

A quartet of future Titans helped propel the Long Beach Cardinals to the Connie Mack World Series championship in Farmington, New Mexico on Thursday.

Blake Davis, Justin Turner, Dan Dorn and Ricky Romero – all of whom have signed letters of intent to play baseball at Fullerton next year – played for the Cardinals, who are managed by Randy Vanderhook, the brother of Titan assistant coach Rick Vanderhook.

Turner earned the tournament's Golden Glove award for his play at second base. The Cardinal infielder didn't commit an error in the final four games and turned several critical double plays.

Davis, who tied a Connie Mack World Series record with five doubles in the tournament, earned a spot on the all-tourney team from the shortstop position.

Romero, a left-handed pitcher, was not named to the all-tournament team, though he allowed only one run in 5.1 innings in the championship game (a 2-1 win over the Bill Hood Broncos) and picked up a win over the West Michigan Elite.
