Four Future Titans Team up for Connie Mack Title Aug. 9, 2002 Farmington, N.M.
A quartet of future Titans helped propel the Long Beach Cardinals to the
Connie Mack World Series championship in Farmington, New Mexico on Thursday.
Blake Davis, Justin Turner, Dan Dorn and Ricky Romero all
of whom have signed letters of intent to play baseball at Fullerton next
year played for the Cardinals, who are managed by Randy Vanderhook,
the brother of Titan assistant coach Rick Vanderhook.
Turner earned the tournament's Golden Glove award for his play at second
base. The Cardinal infielder didn't commit an error in the final four
games and turned several critical double plays.
Davis, who tied a Connie Mack World Series record with five doubles in
the tournament, earned a spot on the all-tourney team from the shortstop
position.
Romero, a left-handed pitcher, was not named to the all-tournament team,
though he allowed only one run in 5.1 innings in the championship game
(a 2-1 win over the Bill Hood Broncos) and picked up a win over the West
Michigan Elite.
