Costa Tabbed Big West Player of the Week Feb. 19, 2002 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton sophomore outfielder Shane Costa (Visalia, Calif.)
has been named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for the period
ending Feb. 17, the Irvine-based conference office announced today.
Costa, a preaseason All-American candidate, batted .800 (8-for-10), slugged
1.300 and reached base in 11 of his 13 plate appearances in a sweep over
UNLV last weekend at Goodwin Field.
After going 2-for-3 in the opener, Costa went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 16-1
rout. He doubled, homered (first of his career) and singled in the first
three innings alone. In Sunday's finale, Costa went 3-for-3 with three
runs and reached base five times.
On the season, Costa is batting .500 after leading the team with a .380
average as a freshman.
The Titans (6-3) play at Loyola Marymount today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. and
visit Arizona State for a three-game series this weekend.
