DeJong Named Big West Pitcher of the Week Feb. 5, 2002 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton senior right-hander Jordan DeJong has been named the
first Big West Pitcher of the Week for the 2002 season.
DeJong, in his second stint with the Titans after spending a season at
Tennessee, held No. 1 Stanford scoreless in a pair of outings last weekend.
In 6.0 innings of work, he allowed just one hit and one walk, holding
Cardinal batters to a .059 batting average.
DeJong, a Yorba Linda resident, came on in relief in Friday's 7-4 loss
and tossed 3.1 innings of one-hit ball with a pair of strikeouts. On Sunday,
he entered in middle relief and retired all eight batters he faced.
The Titans have dominated the Big West Pitcher of the Week category over
the last few seasons. In 2001 alone, Titan hurlers were selected for the
honor eight times. Fullerton has also had three of the last four conference
Pitchers of the Year and has paced the Big West in ERA in four of the
last five seasons.
Fullerton (1-2), ranked 15th by Baseball America, will host Fresno
State for a three-game series this weekend.
