DeJong and Ingle Selected on Draft's First Day June 4, 2002 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton righthanders Jordan DeJong and Travis Ingle were selected
Tuesday on the first day of the 2002 Major League Baseball First-Year
Player Draft.
DeJong, a senior from Yorba Linda, was chosen by Toronto in the 18th round
(536th overall). He paced the Titans with 11 wins this season and posted
a 4.00 ERA while hurling a pair of complete games. DeJong struck out 88
and walked 34 in 108.0 innings.
Ingle, a sophomore who is eligible because he turns 21 within 45 days
of the draft (July 14), was selected by Tampa Bay in the 22nd round (644th
overall). Ingle, a relief specialist and spot starter this season, was
3-1 with a 3.17 ERA in 22 appearances. He struck out 42 and walked 19
in 54 innings.
The Titans had had at least one player selected in the first 10 rounds
every year since 1994. The two-day draft concludes on Wednesday.
