Titans Sign Top Lefty from Los Angeles
June 12, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

Ricky Romero, a lefthanded pitcher out of Roosevelt H.S. in Los Angeles, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Cal State Fullerton next season, Titan recruiting coordinator Dave Serrano announced today.

Romero is one of the prized recruits for the Titans, who have now signed 16 players. The 6-2, 170-pound pitcher was dominant for Roosevelt this season, posting a 12-0 record with a 0.29 ERA. He struck out 152 and walked just 23 batters in 73.0 innings. Romero led the Southland (Orange and Los Angeles Counties) in wins and strikeouts and was second in ERA while earning Los Angeles City Section co-Player of the Year honors.

"Ricky has a chance to be a dominant college pitcher as a freshman," said Serrano, who is also the Titans' pitching coach. "He is a left-hander with an outstanding curveball and those two factors alone make him a top commodity."

Romero was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 37th round of last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
