BIOLA: Was one of the top players in the Golden State Athletic Conference during his three seasons at Biola, an NAIA powerhouse in La Mirada, Calif. • Batted .334 in his three seasons • The Eagles, coached by John Verhoeven, finished with a 46-13 record last season and reached the NAIA College World Series • Earned first-team All-GSAC and honorable mention NAIA All-American honors as a junior, when he batted .372 (tops on the team) with 12 homers and 60 RBI • Finished first in the conference in runs (64), second in hits (84), tied for third in home runs and third in RBI • Went 1-for-4 with a walk in Biola’s 7-6 loss at Cal State Fullerton on May 2 • Hit a walk-off home run in the Eagles’ 8-6 regional semifinal win over Cal Baptist • Also earned all-conference honors his sophomore season, when he batted .345 with three homers and 31 RBI • Batted .259 with seven doubles, three homers and 20 RBI as a freshman and made just four errors in 183 chances at shortstop • Also played soccer at Biola.

ESPERANZA H.S.: Earned a pair of varsity letters for Coach Mike Curran at Esperanza H.S. in Anaheim, Calif. • As a senior, he batted .360 and set school records with 14 doubles and four triples (since broken) • Earned first-team All-Sunset League honors • Was named MVP of the CIF championship game at Dodger Stadium despite a loss • Also named “Most Hustling Player” at the Orange County All-Star game, played at Cal State Fullerton • His junior team finished 25-5, captured the CIF Division I championship and was ranked fifth nationally • Also an all-county soccer player his senior year • Was on the honor roll all four years and had the highest grade point average on his team as a senior.

PERSONAL: Born on Sept. 26, 1979, in Fullerton, Calif. • Parents are Ignacio and Jackie Munoz • Has an older sister, Ana • Majoring in business • Best player he’s competed against is Albert Pujols • Considers the arboretum the coolest place on campus • His strangest summer job was inspecting toilets • Best advice for kids is to read the Bible and find out who Jesus is • If he’s not playing in the majors in 10 years, he hopes to be “serving the Lord anyway I can” • Favorites...Los Angeles Dodgers (team), Roberto Alomar (player), chorizo con huevos (food), Jackie Chan (actor), Legend of Bagger Vance (movie), Bible (book).
