TITANS ’01: Began the season as the No. 3 catcher on the Titans’ depth chart and wound up as Fullerton’s starting backstop over a 16-game stretch when Brett Kay suffered a broken thumb and Lachlan Thorburn played himself out of the spot • In 27 games, he batted just .154, but performed admirably in the absence of Kay • In fact, the Titans were 14-3 with Pilittere as the starting catcher and recorded a three-game sweep at Miami • Had more RBI (11) than hits (10) • Did not collect an extra-base hit in 65 at bats • Picked up a hit in his first collegiate at bat against Arizona State on Feb. 23 • Had his first multiple-hit game at Miami on April 1, when he was 2-for-3 with a season-best three RBI • Also had a two-run single in Fullerton’s 28-0 win over Pacific on April 8 • Had just five at bats over the last seven weeks • Had just one error (.994 fielding percentage) and just three passed balls.

PERSONAL: Born on November 23, 1981, in San Dimas, Calif. • Full name is Peter John Pilittere • Parents are Pete and Debbie Pilittere • Has an older sister, Angela • Majoring in communications with hopes of pursuing a career in television broadcasting • Most memorable sports thrill was getting a hit in his first collegiate at bat • If he’s not playing baseball, you can find him “talking baseball with (teammate) Sean Martin” • Says he’ll be sure to bring his “A” game to Omaha • If he won the lottery, he would buy a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT and restore it with his dad • Best player he’s competed against is Kiki Bengochea (Miami) • Wants to see LSU added to the schedule • Favorites...New York Mets (team), Mike Piazza (player), Pepe’s breakfast burrito (food), A Bronx Tale (movie), Writing for Broadcast News (class), TitanCentral.com (web site).
