Coaches Say the Titans are the Big West Favorites Jan. 17, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton has been picked by the Big West Conference coaches
as the favorite to capture the 2003 conference baseball title.
Five of the eight Big West baseball head coaches selected the Titans as
the likely champion. The Titans edged Long Beach State, which fell two
points short of first place in the preseason poll.
Cal State Fullerton is ranked in all four major polls this preseason with
a ranking as high as No. 7 (Collegiate Baseball). The Titans return
three All-Big West players in junior outfielder Shane Costa and junior
right-handed pitchers Wes Littleton and Chad Cordero. All three players
have garnered preseason All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball
and Baseball America.
Cal State Fullerton, which has won or shared the Big West title four of
the past five years, opens the 2003 season against Stanford at Goodwin
Field on Jan. 31. Conference play opens on April 4, when Fullerton hosts
Pacific, picked last in the coaches poll.
