USC, Titans to Play at Edison Field on Mar. 15 Mar. 6, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Longtime college baseball powers Cal State Fullerton and Southern California
will take their rivalry to a bigger stage on Saturday, March 15, when
they tangle in the first-ever college baseball game at Edison International
Field, home of the World Series champion Anaheim Angels. The game will
begin at 4 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the Big West Conference men's
basketball tournament championship game at 9 p.m. at the nearby Anaheim
Convention Center.
Tickets for the baseball game are $10 for adults and $6 for children,
seniors and students. Cal State Fullerton students with a valid ID will
be admitted free. Seating will be "first-come, first-served"
on the most desirable field and terrace levels. Cal State Fullerton season
ticket holders' tickets will be good for admission to the Diamond Club
seating area behind home plate.
Tickets are available at the Edison Field Box Office beginning Wednesday,
Mar. 12, and currently are available at the Cal State Fullerton Athletic
ticket Office -- (714) 278-CSUF.
The Titans and Trojans represent two of the top collegiate baseball programs
in the nation, having combined for 15 national championships, 32 College
World Series appearances and 125 Major Leaguers. Both teams are again
among the nation's elite this season, with the Titans ranked fifth in
the most recent Baseball America poll and the Trojans checking
in at No. 18.
"This will provide a special atmosphere to showcase two of the best
programs in the nation," said Cal State Fullerton Athletics Director
Brian Quinn. "The Cal State Fullerton athletic department and the
Anaheim Angels have a unique relationship and we are appreciative that
we can call their beautiful stadium our home for a night."
The Titans and Angels have met several times in exhibition games during
the Angels' spring training seasons and even played at Edison Field in
1999.
The March 15 game is part of a three-game series between the two long-time
rivals. USC's Dedeaux Field will host games on Friday, March 14 and Sunday,
March 16.
The game at Edison will mark the second leg of the Titans' "American
League Championship Series tour." This weekend, Fullerton is taking
on Minnesota in the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota
Twins, who battled the Angels in the 2002 ALCS.
