Quartet of Titans Named Freshmen All-Americans June 5, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton starting pitchers Dustin Miller and Ryan Schreppel
along with outfielder Danny Dorn and infielder Justin Turner have been
named freshman All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball, bringing the
Titans' tally of 2003 All-Americans to a record-tying six.
Miller, a redshirt freshman out of Diamond Bar, is 8-2 with a 3.19 ERA.
The three-time Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week and honorable mention
all-conference pick struck out a team-high and Cal State Fullerton freshman
record 91 batters and walked just 19 in 87.1 innings.
Schreppel missed two months after undergoing surgery to replace a torn
ligament in his knee, but has still posted a 5-2 record and a 1.86 ERA.
He has struck out 40 batters and walked just 13 in 48.1 innings and opponents
have batted just .211 against the lefty out of Stockton.
Dorn was a second-team all-conference pick after pacing the Big West with
53 RBI, which also broke the Titan freshman record held by Phil Nevin.
Dorn, out of Diamond Bar, is batting .370 and is one of just two players
to rank among the top four in the Big West in batting, slugging and on-base
percentage.
Turner, who has started the last seven games at shortstop after playing
most of the season at second base, is batting .322 with seven doubles,
34 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a team-high 11 sac bunts. The Team USA invitee
out of Lakewood, Calif. has committed just four errors (and just one fielding
error) in 54 starts in the middle infield.
The four Titans join Chad Cordero (Collegiate Baseball third-team
All-American) and Shane Costa (Collegiate Baseball and Sports
Weekly second-team All-American) to give Fullerton six All-Americans,
its highest total since 1994.
