Dorn Drives in Eight as Titans Batter LMU, 22-6 Apr. 8, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Box Score
Danny Dorn was 3-for-5 with a career-high eight RBI as second-ranked Cal
State Fullerton avenged an earlier loss to Loyola Marymount with a 22-6
rout of the Lions in a nonconference game at Goodwin Field Tuesday night.
The Titans, who are 18-0 at home this season, improved to 28-7 overall
while Loyola Marymount saw its five-game winning streak snapped and fell
to 21-13.
Dorn hit a three-run shot to highlight an eight-run first inning, bucking
an LMU trend that had seen the Lions allow just a combined five first-inning
runs in their first 33 games. He added at least one RBI in each of the
next four innings as the Titans scored all 22 runs through the first five
innings. Dorn's eight runs batted in were the most by a Titan since Mike
Martinez collected eight RBI vs. Fresno State on Feb. 9, 2002.
Fullerton sent 44 batters to the plate in the first five innings with
each Titan starter reaching base at least twice during the scoring binge.
The 22 runs were the most since Fullerton scored 23 in the opener of the
UNLV series on Feb. 14.
For the second time in a week, Shane Costa had three doubles to move into
a tie with Phil Nevin for seventh on the career list with 51. Kyle Boyer
and Ronnie Prettyman also collected three hits and Justin Turner was 2-for-4
to extend his career-high hitting streak to 11 games.
Darric Merrell, who allowed four runs on four hits in five innings, earned
the win to improve to 2-0. Travis Ingle and John Tucker mopped up for
the Titans with a pair of innings each.
The Lions' Erik Reyes, who gave up all eight first-inning runs (five earned)
in just two-thirds of an inning in his first career start, fell to 0-1.
The Titans will play a Big West Conference series at Cal State Northridge
this weekend.
