Miller Named Big West Pitcher of the Week...Again Mar. 31, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
For the third time this season, Cal State Fullerton freshman righthander
Dustin Miller (Diamond Bar, Calif.) has been named Big West Conference
Pitcher of the Week.
Miller is the co-recipient of this week's honor after pitching seven-plus
scoreless innings and combining with John Tucker to help the Titans notch
their first-ever shutout at Blair Field against No. 5 Long Beach State
on Saturday.
Miller, who improved to 5-1, scattered just three singles, walked three
and struck out three. He retired the 49ers in order four times and allowed
just two runners to move into scoring position.
The redshirt freshman who sat out last season after undergoing elbow surgery
also earned the award after picking up a win over Stanford in his collegiate
debut and for striking out 13 in a win over Nevada in late February.
The three awards in one season is the most by a Titan pitcher since Kirk
Saarloos earned a conference-record six citations in his 2001 All-American
season. Titan pitchers have earned at least a share of the weekly honor
in six of nine weeks this season.
