Schreppel and Romero Combine for 3-Hit Shutout Feb. 22, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.

Freshmen pitchers Ryan Schreppel and Ricky Romero combined to toss a three-hit
shutout as No. 6 Cal State Fullerton blanked Nevada, 7-0, in a nonconference
game in front of 1,532 at Goodwin Field.
The Titans improved to 10-1 on the season while Nevada fell to 4-8.
Schreppel, a lefty out of Stockton, improved to 4-0 on the season while
lowering his ERA to 0.82 and opponents' batting average to .181. He allowed
just three hits and walked one while striking out six in seven innings.
Romero tossed a pair of no-hit innings to finish off the Wolf Pack. Nevada
sent just 30 batters to the plate.
The Titans jumped on Nevada starter Justin Sherman (1-2) for a run in
the second -- when Sergio Pedroza singled in Danny Dorn -- and tallied
four more runs in the third. Ronnie Prettyman opened with a triple to
right-center field and scored on a single by Justin Turner. Kyle Boyer
later doubled down the left field line to drive in a run and Richie Burgos'
two-run single to center made the score, 5-0.
The Titans grabbed a 6-0 lead in the fourth Turner drove a one-out double
down the left field line and scored on Dorn's second single of the night.
Fullerton finished its scoring in the seventh after Burgos collected his
first career triple and came home on Kurt Suzuki's single.
Prettyman and Burgos each had three hits for the Titans and Turner, Dorn
and Suzuki had two a piece. Tony Cappuccilli had two of the Wolf Pack's
three hits.
Fullerton will try for the three-game sweep on Sunday at noon.
