We're No. 1: Titans Top Two Baseball Polls Apr. 21, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
For the first time in Coach George Horton's seven-year era at Cal State
Fullerton, the Titan baseball team has climbed to No. 1 in the Baseball
America poll, considered by most as the primary poll governing collegiate
baseball.
The Titans are also ranked first by Collegiate Baseball for the
first time since the 2001 season. Fullerton moved up one spot to second
in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches poll.
Fullerton (34-8 overall, 8-1 in Big West Conference play) has won six
consecutive games and 10 of its past 11. The Titans take over the top
spot in both polls from Rice, which lost three of its five games last
week. Florida State, which won a weekend series at Miami, moved into second
and is ranked first in the coaches poll.
Fullerton was last ranked first by Baseball America for
five consecutive weeks during the 1996 season, Augie Garrido's last year
as the head coach at Fullerton.
The Titans will visit UCLA on Tuesday before traveling to Cal Poly for
a three-game weekend Big West Conference set.
