Prettyman Earns Conference, National Honors Mar. 11, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton sophomore designated hitter Ronnie Prettyman has been
named the Big West Conference Player of the Week and National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association National Hitter of the Week.
Prettyman, a Cerritos College transfer who hails from Los Alamitos, batted
.818 on the week and had hits in eight consecutive at bats while reaching
base in 10 consecutive appearances. He drove in five runs, scored five
runs and had four doubles, including three in Fullerton's 6-1 win over
Minnesota on Saturday.
Prettyman also had a pair of stolen bases and had a game-tying safety
squeeze bunt in the top of the eighth inning at the Metrodome on Sunday.
While it did not count in the official stats, Prettyman also blasted a
three-run walkoff homer against Keio University (Japan) in an exhibition
on Wednesday.
Prettyman, who is now batting a conference-best .443, is the second Titan
to earn national honors this year. Junior pitcher Wes Littleton was name
the National Pitcher of the Week after throwing a one-hitter against Fresno
State on Feb. 7. Fullerton has also had at least one player earn conference
pitcher or player of the week honors in every week of the season.
