Schreppel Named Co-Big West Pitcher of the Week Mar. 3, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton freshman pitcher Ryan Schreppel (Stockton, Calif.)
has been named the Co-Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the Irvine-based
conference office announced today.
Schreppel was named the Kia Baseball Bash Most Outstanding Pitcher after
stifling a Tulane offense that brought a .374 average into the tournament.
The freshman lefty scattered just two hits and did not allow a run in
seven innings but did not earn a win because he departed before the Titans'
ninth-inning rally over the Green Wave, ranked No. 21 at the time.
Schreppel retired the first seven batters he faced and the last seven
batters he faced and allowed just one runner past first base in seven
innings. He struck out six and walked just one while lowering his conference-best
ERA to 0.62.
Titan pitchers have earned at least a share of the conference Pitcher
of the Week honor in four of the first five weeks. Freshman Dustin Miller
has already earned the honor twice and junior Wes Littleton received the
accolade after throwing a one-hitter at Fresno State.
