Titans Pull Away Late for 16-7 Win over UCSB Apr. 18, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.

Ronnie Prettyman was 4-for-6 with three RBI and six other Titans had two
hits as second-ranked Cal State Fullerton broke away late for a 16-7 win
over UC Santa Barbara in a Big West Conference game at Goodwin Field Friday
night.
The Titans, who have won five in a row and nine of their last 10, improved
to 33-8 overall, 7-1 in Big West play and 21-0 at home. UCSB dropped to
18-20 overall and 1-7 in conference. The nine-inning affair lasted 4:01.
Travis Ingle (1-0), who allowed three runs in 3.1 innings of relief work,
earned his first win. Titan starter Dustin Miller struck out eight in
4.2 innings and took a shutout into the fifth, but couldn't get out of
the inning to become eligible for his eighth win. Gaucho starter Michael
Martin (2-1) took the loss.
The Titans never trailed in the game after Shane Costa doubled in Prettyman
in the first, but twice the Gauchos pulled to within a run in the middle
innings. The Titans finally broke the contest open with three runs in
the sixth, two in the seventh and five in the eighth.
The top four hitters in the Titan order -- Prettyman, Justin Turner, Costa
and Kyle Boyer -- combined to go 10-for-18 with 10 RBI, six runs and four
stolen bases.
The Gauchos were paced by Nate Sutton, who had two hits and four RBI.
Fullerton will go for the series sweep on Saturday at 1 p.m.
