Ronnie Prettyman and Shane Costa each had four hits and Richie Burgos
had three doubles and a career-high five RBI as second-ranked Cal State
Fullerton beat UC Santa Barbara, 14-4, at Goodwin Field Saturday afternoon
to cap a three-game sweep of the Gauchos.
The Titans, who have won six in a row and 10 of their past 11, improved
to 34-8 overall, 8-1 in Big West play and 22-0 at home. UCSB fell to 18-21
and 1-8.
For the second consecutive day, the Titans broke open a close game in
the middle innings. Fullerton led, 5-4, before Burgos' three-run double
to center field in the sixth gave the Titans an 8-4 edge.
The Titans banged out 17 hits, including nine doubles. P.J. Pilittere
had a pair of doubles and Shane Costa also banged out a pair to raise
his Big West leading total to 21 and his career total to 56, fourth all-time
in Fullerton's record books.
Jason Windsor had his roughest outing of year, allowing four runs on eight
hits in five innings, but still earned the win to improve to 6-1. Ricky
Romero pitched three no-hit innings and Chad Cordero retired all three
batters he faced in the ninth. Cordero moved into third place on the Titans'
all-time appearance list with his 96th. UCSB starter Matt Vasquez fell
to 2-4.
Fullerton will visit UCLA on Tuesday before traveling to Cal Poly next
weekend for a three-game Big West set.
