Titans Erase Five-Run Deficit to Rout San Diego Mar. 11, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

Jason Windsor, Sean Martin and Chad Cordero combined to pitch 5.2 scoreless
innings of relief and seven Titans racked up multiple hits as fifth-ranked
Cal State Fullerton rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat San Diego, 16-6,
in a nonconference game at Goodwin Field Tuesday night.
The Titans improved to 17-3 overall with the win while the Toreros fell
to 10-13. Windsor pitched 2.2 no-hit innings to improve to 3-0 while lowering
his ERA to 0.89. San Diego's Chad Cummings fell to 1-1.
The Titans trailed, 6-1, heading into the bottom of the fifth, but batted
around in the fifth and scored five runs to even the game, 6-6. Danny
Dorn's double to right-center field plated Kyle Boyer with the tying run.
The Titans grabbed a 7-6 lead in the sixth when Shane Costa's two-out
single drove in Justin Smyres, who scored four runs on the game. Fullerton
scored five more runs in the seventh, then added four in the eighth to
round out the assault.
Fullerton's Darric Merrell, making his first start of the season since
being sidelined with an elbow injury, spotted the Toreros a 4-0 lead after
an inning and a half. San Diego scored three runs on four hits in the
first and added another in the second when reliever Ricky Romero hit the
first batter he faced -- Lucas Wennersten -- with the bases loaded to
force in a run.
Dorn and Pilittere each had three hits for Fullerton and Costa was 2-for-4
with three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Boyer had two doubles.
San Diego was led by Tony Perez, who was 3-for-5, and Lucas Wennersten,
who was 3-for-3 with three RBI.
The Titans will meet USC in a weekend series. Friday and Sunday's games
will be played at Dedeaux Field with Saturday's game being played at Edison
Field at 4 p.m.
