Was a two-time all-league selection at Brentwood School in Los Angeles, Calif., where he played for Coach Mike Estrada • Earned All-CIF honors as a senior after batting .577 with nine home runs, 51 RBI and 17 stolen bases • Had a 1.026 slugging percentage • As a junior, he batted .582 with four homers and 34 RBI • Was a four-year honor roll student and a member of the Dean’s List • Earned his school’s art award.

PERSONAL: Born on December 30, 1981, in Los Angeles • Parents are Barry and Kelly Cooper • Has a younger sister (Hannah) • Majoring in studio art with the hopes of being a film director • Has been a member of UC Santa Barbara’s honors program • Played on the 15-year-old U.S. National Team in the World Championships in Japan • Also considered attending Vanderbilt, Harvard and Notre Dame • Says George Gennovese (a pro scout) and Paul Manstellino (his Connie Mack coach) have had the most influence on his career • Food of choice is Ruth’s Chris New York steak
