Suzuki and Windsor Named All-Americans June 3, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton junior catcher Kurt Suzuki was named a first-team
All American by Collegiate Baseball today and senior right-hander
Jason Windsor was tabbed a second-team pick by the Tucson-based publication.
Suzuki, already selected as a second-team All-American by Sports Weekly,
is the first Titan position player named to Collegiate Baseball 's
first team since Mark Kotsay in 1996.
Suzuki is fifth in the nation in batting (.438), ninth in RBI per game
(1.32) and 19th in slugging percentage (.726). On the Big West Conference
leaderboard, he ranks among the top three in 10 categories, including
first in batting, on-base and slugging percentage, RBI and sac flies.
Suzuki, a walk-on as a freshman, is a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench
Award, which is presented annually to college baseball's top catcher.
He is also on the Baseball America Player of the Year watch list.
Windsor lived up to his second-team preseason billing by posting an 8-4
record to go along with his 2.12 ERA that ranks 20th nationally. He shared
Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year honors with National Player of
the Year Jered Weaver after becoming the only player in the conference
to beat every team, going a perfect 7-0 in Big West play. He has hurled
six consecutive complete games heading into NCAA regional play.
Windsor, who earned third-team All-American honors last year, becomes
the 11th Titan to earn All-American honors in two different seasons.
