Fresh off its second College World Series appearance in the past three
years, the Cal State Fullerton baseball team will open official Fall practice
on Thursday, Oct. 16 at Goodwin Field.
Fullerton finished the 2003 season with a 50-16 record and came one win
shy of reaching the inaugural College World Series championship series.
The Titans, guided by Baseball America 2003 National Coach of the
Year George Horton, finished as the consensus No. 3 team in the
nation.
A host of returners will lead the 2004 squad, which opens the season at
Stanford on Jan. 30. The Titans return their primary three starting pitchers
of a year ago in third-team All-American Jason Windsor (11-2, 1.98
ERA) and freshmen All-Americans Dustin Miller (9-2, 3.33) and Ryan
Schreppel (5-3, 2.34).
Outfielder Danny Dorn (.348, seven homers, 54 RBI) and infielder
Justin Turner (.326, 13 SB, .981 fielding percentage), both of
whom earned freshman All-American bids, also return, along with infielder
Ronnie Prettyman (.344, 17 doubles, 14 SB) and backstops P.J.
Pilittere (.380) and Kurt Suzuki (.350).
Fullerton will also feature 15 newcomers in a talented recruiting class
that was ranked the 18th best in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.
As usual, the Titans will wrap up fall practice with Family Fun Day festivities
on Nov. 1. The Titans will conduct a clinic for community youths from
10:30 to 11:45 a.m., to be followed by a 15-minute autograph session.
The traditional Blue-Orange scrimmage gets underway at 1:35 p.m.
Following is the fall scrimmage schedule. All scrimmages will be played
at Goodwin Field and are open to the public. Please note days and times
are subject to change.
