Ronnie Prettyman had four hits and four Titans homered as Cal State Fullerton
routed Fresno State, 15-5, in a nonconference baseball game at Pete Beiden
Field Saturday afternoon.
Fullerton evened its record at 13-13 while the Bulldogs fell to 12-15.
Fullerton starter Ricky Romero allowed five runs on 10 hits in 6.2 innings,
but earned the win to improve to 4-3.
Fullerton, which scored in all but the third and fourth innings, set a
season high for runs and matched its season high for hits. The four home
runs were the most by the Titans since they hit that same number against
Mississippi State in an NCAA super regional game on June 2, 2001.
The Titans chased Fresno State starter Rudy Quinonez (2-5) in the first
inning. Kurt Suzuki blasted a solo homer -- his second in as many days
-- and Felipe Garcia and P.J. Pilittere each drove in runs in the three-run
inning.
Fresno pinch-hitter Chase Moore hit a two-run homer off Romero in the
second to close the Titan lead to 4-3, but the Titans broke the game pen
with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Eleven Titans had hits and Prettyman, Clark Hardman, Suzuki, Brett Pill,
Sergio Pedroza and Pilittere all had multiple hits. Pill, Mark Carroll
and Pedroza joined Suzuki in the home run column.
Fullerton will try to win its second road series of the year on Sunday
at 1:05 p.m.
