Cesar Ramos allowed just three hits in eight innings and Mike Hofius was
4-for-5 with three RBI as seventh-ranked Long Beach State beat Cal State
Fullerton, 10-1, Saturday night at Goodwin Field.
The 49ers, who captured their first series from the Titans since 2002,
improved to 20-7. Fullerton fell to 15-16 and dropped their first home
series since they were swept by Cal State Northridge on April 24-26, 2002.
Ramos improved to 5-2 while Titan starter Ryan Schreppel fell to 2-2.
Long Beach State grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first when Jason Vargas
singled in Travis Udvarhelyi. The 49ers scored twice more in the third
and chased Schreppel in the fifth.
Fullerton scored its lone run in the fifth when Felipe Garcia triple to
center field to lead off and scored on a sac fly by P.J. Pilittere.
Clark Hardman was the most successful of the five Titan pitchers, pitching
a scoreless ninth in his first collegiate appearance on the mound.
The Titans will try to avert the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
