Jason Windsor retired the first 14 batters he faced and hurled a six-hit
complete game to help Cal State Fullerton beat Minnesota, 7-1, in a nonconference
game at Goodwin Field Friday night.
The Titans snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 10-11 overall.
Minnesota had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 4-5.
Windsor (1-2) fired his second complete game of the season, scattering
six hits (five singles), striking out four and walking none.
The Titans broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third off
Minnesota starter Josh Krogman (0-1). Sergio Pedroza, Kurt Suzuki and
P.J. Pilittere all had RBI-singles and Danny Dorn drove in a run with
a sac fly.
That was more than enough support for Windsor, who didn't allow a baserunner
until David Hrncirik blooped a single into right-center field. Hrncirik
also drove in the Golden Gophers' only run with a single to center field
in the seventh.
Justin Turner was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Ronnie Prettyman had two hits
and turned in several spectacular defensive plays at third base. Felipe
Garcia also had a pair of hits, including a solo home run over the screen
in center field in the seventh inning.
Fullerton will try to clinch the series win when it hosts Minnesota on
Saturday at 6 p.m.
