Schreppel, Suzuki Star in Win over Sam Houston Mar. 6, 2004 Austin, Texas
Ryan Schreppel took a shutout into the eighth inning and Kurt Suzuki was
2-for-3 with three RBI as 17th-ranked Cal State Fullerton beat Sam Houston
State, 12-2, Saturday night in a nonconference baseball game at the University
of Texas' Disch-Falk Field.
Fullerton improved to 9-9 overall with the win while the Bearkats, who
lost to Texas earlier in the day, fell to 4-9-1.
Schreppel improved to 2-1 with his strongest outing of the season. He
allowed two runs on eight hits in eight innings, struck out four and walked
just one. Schreppel retired 10 in a row over one stretch and allowed just
four hits (all singles) through six inning. His shutout bid was broken
up in the eighth inning when Sam Houston State pinch-hitter Karl Krailo
doubled in a pair of runs.
The Titans, who scored in all but one inning, took advantage of 13 hits
by nine different players and four Bearkat errors. Suzuki had an RBI-double
in the first and Sergio Pedroza had a one-run single to open the scoring.
Ronnie Prettyman, Pedroza and Brett Pill each had two hits and Felipe
Garcia had two RBI.
Fullerton will try to move above .500 for the first time this season when
it faces No. 4 Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST.
