Jason Windsor gave up just three hits -- all solo home runs -- and pitched
his fourth consecutive complete game to lead Cal State Fullerton to a
12-3 win over UC Riverside in a Big West Conference game at Goodwin Field
Friday night.
The Titans, who have won 14 of their past 16 games, improved to 29-18
overall and 12-1 in conference play. They maintained a two-game lead over
Long Beach, which shut out Pacific Friday night. UC Riverside fell to
30-19 overall and 8-5 in conference play and dropped four games back of
the Titans.
Windsor (6-4) gave up solo homers in the fourth (to Matt Cunningham),
fifth (Brian Steinmeyer) and eighth (Kyle Barratt), but did not allow
another batter to reach. He retired the first 10 batters of the game.
The preseason All-American now has six complete games on the season.
The Titans grabbed a quick 2-0 lead on Riverside starter Jaymie Torres
(1-2), scoring on Kurt Suzuki's sac fly and Danny Dorn's RBI-groundout
in the first. A Highlander error -- one of three on the night -- plated
another pair in the second.
Fullerton opened the game wide open with a four-run fifth, with Sergio
Pedroza's three-run double proving the big blow. Suzuki added a three-run
homer, his ninth, in the sixth.
Suzuki had his streak of nine consecutive hits and 11 consecutive times
reaching base snapped in the first, but still went 2-for-3 with four RBI
and reached base three times. Pedroza was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles
and three RBI and Danny Dorn and Clark Hardman each had a pair of hits.
P.J. Pilittere's hitting streak was snapped at 15 games.
Fullerton will play UC RIverside again on Saturday at 6 p.m.
