Kurt Suzuki blasted his 10th homer of the year and Clark Hardman was 3-for-3
with three RBI as Cal State Fullerton beat UC Riverside, 11-4, Sunday
at Goodwin Field to capture the Big West Conference series and remain
in sole possession of first place.
The Titans improved to 30-19 overall and 13-2 in conference play, one
game ahead of Long Beach State with six games to play. UC Riverside fell
to 31-20 and 9-6.
The Titans trailed, 2-0, heading into the fourth, but erupted for four
runs with Hardman's two-run triple giving the Titans a 4-2 lead. The game
was still relatively close when Suzuki erased all doubt in the sixth,
blasting a three-run homer over the wall in left-center field.
Suzuki, who is 17-for-22 over the past six games, is the first Titan to
reach double figures in home runs since 2001 and his 63 RBI are the most
by a Titan since 1999.
Titan starter Mike Martinez, one of three Titan seniors honored on the
day, picked up the win to improve to 5-2. Riverside starter Jose Shaw
fell to 3-3.
