Jason Windsor tossed his first career shutout and Kurt Suzuki homered
in his third straight game as Cal State Fullerton remained perfect in
the Big West Conference with an 8-0 win over UC Santa Barbara at Caesar
Uyesaka Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Titans, who have won nine of their past 10 games, improved to 24-17
overall and 7-0 in Big West play. UC Santa Barbara fell to 23-16 and 1-6.
Windsor (4-4) tossed a four-hit shutout en route to his fourth complete
game of the season and his first shutout in 21 career starts at Fullerton.
He struck out five and walked just one while facing just two batters over
the minimum. He also retired the last eight batters of the game.
He was supported bya 14-hit attack by the Titans, who got to starter Michael
Martin (8-3) for four runs in the third. Ronnie Prettyman scored on a
sac fly by Justin Turner and Suzuki hit a towering shot over the left
field wall for his seventh homer and third in as many games.
Sergio Pedroza added an RBI-double down the left field line later in the
inning to score Danny Dorn and Felipe Garcia also hustled home when Gaucho
left fielder Bill Rowe had trouble handling the ball.
Fullerton made it a 6-0 game on Blake Davis' two-run homer in the sixth
and P.J. Pilittere sliced a two-run double down the left field line in
the eighth to cap the Titans' scoring.
Garcia was 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Fullerton will meet the Gauchos again on Saturday at 1 p.m.
