TITANS ’03: Earned honorable mention
All-Big West Conference honors as a true freshman • All of his game
action came at DH • Was batting .386 before a 5-for-32 skid to finish
the season saw his average fall to .325 • The Titans were 24-3 when
he batted eighth or ninth in the order • Batted .448 with runners on
and two outs and .529 with runners in scoring position and two outs •
Blasted three homers in four at bats in the UNLV series (including two in
the Sunday game) and reached base in six of seven appearances • Had
a game-tying two-run double in the eighth inning of the Titans’ 7-5
win over Long Beach State on Mar. 30 • Was 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles
in the Titans' three-game sweep of Pacific to open Big West play.
NORTHVIEW H.S.: Was a four-year varsity player at Northview H.S. in
Covina, Calif., where he was primarily a catcher for Coach Darren Murphy
• Earned some form of All-Valle Vista League recognition in each of
his four seasons, including co-MVP honors as a senior, when he batted .478
with six homers and 32 RBI to lead Northview to an 18-9 record and a league
championship • Also named a Louisville Slugger TPX All-American his
junior and senior years • Had his highest batting average (.515) as
a sophomore • Holds Northview career records for hits (130), home runs
(19) and RBI (91).
PERSONAL: Born on Feb. 23, 1984, in East Los Angeles • Parents
are Jesus and Rosa Pedroza • Has three younger siblings • Major
is undecided • Credits his parents with having the greatest influence
on his life • Says the most impressive thing about Coach Horton is
“he knows just about everything about small ball” • Says
he’s better than anyone at fishing…but he’s never been able
to catch a salmon • Thinks the coolest place on campus is the bowling
alley • Doesn’t wear batting gloves (it’s a superstition)
