Stanford Wins Slugfest, 15-10, to Avoid Sweep
Feb. 6, 2005 – Fullerton, CA

Box Score

Chris Lewis had a career-high three hits and two home runs as No. 6 Stanford averted a three-game sweep with a 15-10 win over third-ranked Cal State Fullerton at Goodwin Field Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinal, who snapped a five-game losing streak at Goodwin Field, improved to 4-2 overall. Fullerton dropped to 2-1.

Stanford reliever Blake Holler (2-0) allowed an unearned run on six hits in 3.2 innings of relief work to pick up the win. Titan starter Scott Sarver (0-1) had a less memorable outing, retiring just one of the six batters he faced, while allowing five runs.

Stanford broke out to a 6-0 lead in the first and answered every Titan threat. Fullerton got as close as three runs when Sergio Pedroza hit his first of two homers and Danny Dorn and Brett Pill had consecutive RBI-singles in the third inning to cut Stanford’s lead to 8-5.

But the Cardinal scored six more runs over the next two innings to put the game out of reach. A parade of six Titan relievers saw action on the mound Sunday with all but Clark Hardman and Vinnie Pestano surrendering runs.

Stanford, which had just three hits in each of the first two games in the series, had 15 hits, including six for extra bases. Fullerton was just one behind in the hit column with 14. Blake Davis, Pedroza, Dorn and Pill each had two hits for the Titans.

Fullerton will host Fresno State in a three-game nonconference series next weekend.
