Davis' Slam Propels Titans to 8-0 Victory Feb. 27, 2005 Las Vegas, Nev.
Box Score
Titan shortstop Blake Davis’ fifth inning grand slam put the Titans
ahead for good as No. 4 Cal State Fullerton defeated UNLV 8-0 in a non-conference
baseball game at Earl E. Wilson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Titans improved to 7-2 on the season behind a solid pitching performance
by senior Scott Sarver who improved to 2-1 with his longest outing of
the year. Sarver, who hasn’t pitched since Feb. 15 because of rain,
went 7 innings scattering four hits while striking out seven.
Jared Clark and Wes Roemer pitched two scoreless innings of relief of
Sarver to seal up the shutout with Roemer striking out the side in the
ninth.
UNLV fell to 2-10 with starter Matt Luca (0-3) picking up the loss.
Sarver and Luca were deadlocked through four innings before Davis took
Luca’s first offering over the right field wall for the four-run
blow. Fullerton’s offense then opened up scoring runs in the fifth,
sixth, seventh, and eighth innings hammering out 14 hits.
Five Titans had a multiple-hit day with Sergio Pedroza leading the way
with three hits.
Davis, Justin Turner, Ronnie Prettyman and Brandon Tripp all added a pair
of hits.
The Titans now make the trip back to Fullerton before they travel south
to San Diego State on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Cal State Fullerton will
then play host to Nevada, UCLA and Oklahoma in the annual Kia Baseball
Bash. .
