Justin Turner drove in the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fifth to
break a 1-1 tie with a two-run single to lift the No. 2 Cal State Fullerton
Titans to a 7-1 non-conference victory over No. 9 Arizona Saturday night
at Goodwin Field.
Fullerton’s win snaps their small 2-game losing streak as they improve
to 15-4 overall. Arizona falls to 16-8 with the loss.

ball, allowing only a solo home run to Arizona’s centerfielder Chris
Frey in the top of the fifth inning. Schreppel struck out four and walked
four Wildcats and escaped a bases-loaded jam as reliever Wes Roemer got
Brad Boyer to ground into a double play to end the seventh inning. Roemer
picked up his first collegiate save while striking out three over his
2.2 innings of work.
Turner’s RBI-single in the fifth inning followed an RBI double by
Blake Davis as the Titans scored three times to open a 4-1 lead. Turner
singled again in the seventh to driving in his game-high third RBI before
the Titans scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a
fielding error by Wildcat second baseman Brett Scyphers.
Arizona starter Kevin Guyette (4-2) gave up five earned runs on 10 Titan
hits over 6.1 innings of work to pick up his second loss of the year.
He struck out eight Titans, including Brett Pill three times, in the losing
effort.
Four Titans hit in double-digits with catcher John Curtis leading the
way with three. Blake Davis, Brandon Trip and Turner each added a pair.
Davis added two RBI’s and Danny Dorn added a lone RBI to round out
Fullerton’s scoring.
The two teams will meet up for the rubber-match Sunday afternoon with
Scott Sarver (3-2, 8.66 ERA) going for the Titans facing Eric Berger (2-0,
4.50 ERA) for the Wildcats. Game time is 1:00 p.m. PST.
