Freshman Wes Roemer pitched eight strong innings while striking out nine
as the Cal State Fullerton Titans downed the Pacific Tigers 11-1 in a
Big West Conference match-up at Goodwin Field Saturday night.
No. 2 Fullerton improved to 25-9 overall and 7-1 in conference play with
Pacific dropping to 17-20, and 3-5 on the year.
Roemer (3-1) picked up his third consecutive victory allowing just five
hits before giving way to Nolan Bruyninckx in the ninth.
The Titan offense exploded as they out-hit the Tigers 15-7 including Danny
Dorn’s fifth home run of the year. The Titan used two back-to-back
four-run inning in the fifth and sixth to extend their 3-1 lead to 11-1.
Roemer allowed a lone run in the third inning, a home run to left fielder
Matt Berezay, only his second run allowed in his last 23.0 innings of
work.
Five Titans collected double-digits knocking out Pacific starter Jason
Haar who lasted just 4.2 innings picking up the loss and falling to 1-4
on the season.
Haar walked three and gave up seven runs on nine hits before reliever
Gregg Reynolds came in to get the final out in the fifth.
Segio Pedroza, Blake Davis and John Curtis each knocked three hits and
at least two RBI. Pedroza and Dorn led the way with three RBI each, including
a
Pedroza two-run single and a Dorn two-run homer in the fifth inning.
The Titans look to complete their second consecutive sweep Sunday as senior
Scott Sarver is set to go on the bump. Pacific will counter with Brett
Manning looking for his second win of the year. Game time is set for 1:00
p.m.
