Titans to Enjoy Bye Weekend at the White House
May 9, 2005– Washington, DC

Cal State Fullerton gets one more opportunity to reflect on the Titans' 2004 national championship in baseball when the team travels Wednesday to Washington, DC, to visit with President Bush. The Titans host Pepperdine Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then have a convenient bye in the Big West Conference schedule this weekend.

All 25 players on the roster in Omaha with the exception of minor leaguers Kurt Suzuki and Jason Windsor and reserve outfielder Shawn Scobee, who transferred to Nevada, will make the trip along with the returning coaches and a small campus entourage.

The meeting with the president will take place at 2:30 p.m. EDT in the East Room of the White House on Friday the 13th, which is appropriate since that was the Titans' lucky number last June in Omaha. Among many coincidences, it was Fullerton's 13th trip to the College World Series, its 13th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and Windsor won his 13th game for the championship on June 13. The Titans are sure to remind President Bush that they beat the University of Texas in the championship game, 3-2. They also beat the Longhorns in the 1984 title game, 3-1.

Here's the itinerary:

May 11 - fly from Long Beach to Washington, DC
stay at the Marriott Metro Center

May 12 - visit the House of Representatives with Congressman Ed Royce (CSF graduate) and tour the Capitol;
afternoon tour of Washington, DC;
evening alumni reception

May 13 - practice at George Mason University;
VIP tour of the White House and visit with President Bush in the East Room;
see Cubs-Nationals at RFK Stadium and hope Titan alum Chad Cordero gets to pitch

May 14 - fly home from Dulles International to Long Beach
Fullerton currently has a record of 36-12 overall and is in first place in the Big West with a 13-2 record. The Titans are ranked No. 1 in the nation again this week by Baseball America.
