Davis is 15th Titan to play for Team USA July 5, 2005 Durham, N.C.
Cal State Fullerton shortstop Blake Davis (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was
selected to the 2005 USA Baseball National Team, the governing body of
amateur baseball in the United States announced, making him the 15th Titan
to wear red, white and blue.
Davis joins 21 other collegiate players on this year’s team that
made it through the four-day trial period in which 39 players participated
at Doak Field on the campus of North Carolina State.
In three games with the National Team thus far, Davis is hitting .250
(2-for-8) with a walk, helping Team USA to remain unbeaten in its first
three contests.
Davis was third on the Titans this year with a .325 batting average while
leading the team in triples (8) and stolen bases (17) before being named
a first-team selection to the All-Big West Conference. He was later selected
by the Cleveland Indians in the 46th round of the Major League Baseball
amateur draft as a redshirt sophomore prior to the Titans elimination
by Arizona State in the Super Regionals at Goodwin Field. Most recently,
Davis has been named to the second team of the American Baseball Coaches
Association/Rawlings West Region team.
Davis joins former Cal State Fullerton players Longo Garcia (1987), Phil
Nevin (1991), Dante Powell (1993), Ted Silva (1994), Mark Kotsay (1995),
Brian Loyd (1995), Ryan Owens (1998), Kirk Saarloos (2000), Chad Cordero
(2002), Wes Littleton (2002), Shane Costa (2002), Mike Lamb (2004), Mike
Rouse (2004), and Ricky Romero (2004) as Titans having represented the
United States with Team USA.
