State Fullerton's women's team tied for second with UC San Diego behind
the Air Force Academy Saturday at the NCAA Western Fencing Regionals in
Colorado Springs. The Titans' men's squad placed fourth behind Stanford,
Air Force and UCSD. Four individuals placed high enough to qualify for
nationals at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, on Mar. 25
-- Roland Breden (foil), Brian Fraser (foil), Senta Breden (womens foil)
and Rachel Liebing (women's sabre). Christy Stewart (foil) is an alternate
with her fate to be determined by Thursday.
Fraser (2nd) and Roland Breden (3rd) each went 11-2 in men's foil while
Otra Oliver was fifth in men's epee at 7-4. Senta Breden was second at
10-1 and Stewart was third at 10-1 in foil. Liebing placed second in sabre,
an event where she finished in 10th place among 109 entries at the Junior
Olympics in Cleveland on Feb. 14.
