Win Conference Championshp, Men 2nd Feb.

Cal
State Fullerton last week won the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of
Southern California women's championship while taking second in the men's
competition due to a tie-breaker.
The women beat UCSD (15-12) and Cal Tech (17-10) to finish the season
first in foil at 12-0, first in sabre at 11-1 and third in epee at 10-2.The
men beat UCSD (15-12) and Cal Tech (18-9) to place first in foil at 12-0,
first in epee at 11-1 and third in sabre at 8-4 and tie with UCSD for
overall first place.
However, because the Tritons won more individual bouts, 134-130, they
are the champions. Fullerton competed without injured sophomore Patrick
Harder, who was conference champion last year in sabre.
Individually, Senta Breden (women's foil), Rachel Liebing (women's sabre)
and Jon Cresante (men's epee) were conference champions. Runnersup were
Roland Breden (men's foil, Otra Oliver, (men's epee) and Christy Stewart
(women's foil). Placing third were Naomi Rivas (women's sabre) and Brian
Fraser (men's foil).
Individually, Rachel Liebing was 21-3 in women's sabre, Alex Decker was
20-4 in men's foil and Roland Breden was 19-5 in men's foil. Decker defeated
two-time All-American Derek Snyder of Notre Dame, 5-4, and Christy Stewart
defeated NCAA runnerup Andrea Ament of Notre Dame, 5-2, in women's foil.
