Women Win Conference Championshp, Men 2nd
Feb. 23, 2004 – Irvine, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton last week won the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California women's championship while taking second in the men's competition due to a tie-breaker.

The women beat UCSD (15-12) and Cal Tech (17-10) to finish the season first in foil at 12-0, first in sabre at 11-1 and third in epee at 10-2.
The men beat UCSD (15-12) and Cal Tech (18-9) to place first in foil at 12-0, first in epee at 11-1 and third in sabre at 8-4 and tie with UCSD for overall first place.

However, because the Tritons won more individual bouts, 134-130, they are the champions. Fullerton competed without injured sophomore Patrick Harder, who was conference champion last year in sabre.

Individually, Senta Breden (women's foil), Rachel Liebing (women's sabre) and Jon Cresante (men's epee) were conference champions. Runnersup were Roland Breden (men's foil, Otra Oliver, (men's epee) and Christy Stewart (women's foil). Placing third were Naomi Rivas (women's sabre) and Brian Fraser (men's foil).

Individually, Rachel Liebing was 21-3 in women's sabre, Alex Decker was 20-4 in men's foil and Roland Breden was 19-5 in men's foil. Decker defeated two-time All-American Derek Snyder of Notre Dame, 5-4, and Christy Stewart defeated NCAA runnerup Andrea Ament of Notre Dame, 5-2, in women's foil.
