Titans Earn WGC All-Conference, Academic Honors
April 2, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

The 2002 Cal State Fullerton women's gymnastics team placed four gymnasts on the Western Gymnastics Conference all-conference team and had five student-athletes earn WGC All-Academic Team honors the league announced on Monday.

Junior Kelly Mathiasen was the big winner for the Titans, earning second-team honors in the all-around while being named to the first team on the uneven parallel bars and balance beam.

Senior Joanna Hughes was named second-team all-conference on the bars, joining teammate Jamie Moody. Freshman Kristin Parker, who competed in only five meets this season after recovering from a knee injury, earned a spot on the second-team for the balance beam.

Outside the gym, five Titans were named to the WGC All-Academic Team. Junior Andrea Boggs (communications), senior Kellie Francia (communications & religious studies), junior Jenny Halloran (kinesiology), senior Joanna Hughes (criminal justice) and junior Theresa O'Gara (business administration) were all honored for their performances in the classroom.

Cal State Fullerton continues its season this Saturday (April 6) as the Titans travel to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional hosted by No. 18 Arizona State. Fullerton is joined by the host Sun Devils, top-ranked UCLA, No. 12 Arizona, No. 17 Brigham Young and #33 Illinois-Chicago.

Competition will begin as 6 p.m. PST and will be held at the Wells Fargo Arena on the campus of Arizona State.
