Titans Finish Third at UNO's Classic Feb. 8, 2002 Tempe, Ariz.
Cal State Fullerton junior Kelly Mathiasen finished second
in the all-around and helped lead the Titans to a season-high 194.975
team score to finish third behind No. 17 Arizona State and Oregon State
at the UNO's Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
The Titans are now 2-5 overall on the season, but eclipsed their previous
season-high score of 192.600 set against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 26.
Mathisen finished a very close second place in the all-around with a season-high
score of 39.375, just .050 behind Oregon State's Annie Campbell for the
title and just short of tying her career best by the same margin.
Mathiasen placed in a tie for fifth place on vault with a score of 9.775,
finished tied for 11th on bars with a season-best 9.800, finished tied
for eighth on the floor with a score of 9.875, and won the balance beam
competition with a career-high tying score of 9.925.
Other Titans also shined this weekend against tough competition as senior
Megan Berry finished tied for fifth on bars with a score of 9.850 and
Joanna Hughes was tied for seventh on the apparatus with a score of 9.825.
Theresa O'Gara finished fourth on the beam with a score of 9.850 and Nicole
Kasson was tied for 11th with a score of 9.750. Berry joined Mathiasen
in eighth plac on the floor with a score of 9.875, while O'Gara and Sharon
Snell also placed in the top 15 on the floor.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 14) as they host
UC Santa Barbara and San Jose State at Titan Gym. The meet is scheduled
to begin at 7 p.m.
