Stumble, Finish Fifth at Conference Meet MAR. 22, 2002 Logan, UT Cal State Fullerton stumbled on vault and scored average at best on the other events Friday night as the Titans finished fifth in the five-team Western Gymnastics Conference championships at Logan, Utah. Denver University took the iinaugural championship with a score of 195.825. Southern Utah, Utah State, Boise State and Fullerton trailed. Fullerton scored only 47.775 on vault with a best individual score of 9.650 by Joanna Hughes, good for only 17th place. Kelly Mathiasen had the best showing for the Titans, sharing first place on bars and placing in a tie for third on balance beam. The Titans must now await the complicated national qualifying picture to see if the team advances to the NCAA Western Regionals on Apr. 6.
