Cal State Fullerton escaped the harsh judges
of Southern California Monday night to post the second-highest team score
in school history in a 195.925-195.700 "loss" at Utah State.
The road score is far more important to the Titans' chances of qualifying
for an NCAA Regional berth than the win-loss outcome.
The Titans were at their best on the beam, where they set a new school
record with a 49.275, breaking the previous mark of 49.225 set against
Utah State almost two years ago to the day on March 15, 2002.
The 195.700 stands behind only the school record of 195.850 set against
Rhode Island in 2003.
Freshman Erica Ficarotta continued to perform well, winning the beam competition
with a 9.925, which ties for the third best Titan scorer ever on that
apparatus. Brittany Evans was third on beam with a 9.875 while Ficarotta
also finished tied for second on bars with a 9.85.
Fullerton's competes again Friday night in its final
regular season meet at Sacramento State, which will also feature UC Davis,
at 7 p.m.
