Cal State Fullerton freshman Erica Ficarotta (Las Vegas, Nev./Go For It
USA) was named the Western Gymnastics Conference Athlete of the Week on
Wednesday after helping her squad to an upset of No. 3 UCLA.
Ficarotta scored a career-high 39.125 to win the all-around and help lead
the Titans to their first win over the Bruins since the 1996 season-opener,
snapping a 16-meet losing streak.
She is the second Fullerton gymnast to earn Athlete of the Week honors,
joining teammate Nicole Lim, who won the honor on Jan. 28.
Ficarotta finished fourth on vault (9.625), tied for second on bars (9.875),
tied for fifth on beam (9.775), and tied for fifth on floor (9.85).
Cal State Fullerton returns to action this weekend for their final home
meet of the year, hosting Seattle Pacific and UC Davis at Titan Gym on
Friday (Feb. 27) at 7 p.m. The Titans will honor their two seniors, Latoya
Milburn and Sharon Snell, prior to the meet.
