Nate Carter scored 16 points including a tie-breaking layup with 1:25
to play Saturday night to lead UC Riverside to a 47-41 Big West Conference
victory at Cal State Fullerton.
Fedi Holm-Hadulla scored a season-high 12 points to lead the Titans, who
fell to 5-10 overall and 3-2 in the Big West. UCR is now 3-8, 2-3.
Carter's layup snapped a 41-41 tie and he and Jake Wessel added field
goals in the final minute for the final score. UCR scored the first seven
points of the game and never trailed. Fullerton tied the game only once,
at 41, on a layup by Bron Groomes with 1:46 remaining. It followed consecutive
3-point field goals by Anthony Bolton and Derick Andrew as the Titans
scored on three possessions in a row to erase UCR's 41-33 lead at the
3:40 mark. Fullerton made a season-high six 3-point field goals in 13
tries but shot only 37 per cent overall.
Bolton led all rebounders with nine. Carter led UCR with 8.
Fullerton suited up only eight players and only seven got into the game.
Leading scorer Ralphy Holmes was sidelined with an injured right shoulder
and reserve center Amir Bar-Netzer was a late scratch due to back spasms.
Fullerton center Pape Sow (6-foot-10) remains indefinitely suspended and
6-foot-11 backup Babacar Camara remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
Three-year letterman forward Brandon Campbell has a degenerative condition
in his ankle and has played in only two games.
Both Fullerton and UCR make trips next week to Idaho and Utah State.
