Pape Sow Reinstated for Saturday Night
Jan. 30, 2003– Fullerton, Calif.

Junior center Pape Sow has been reinstated to the Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball team effective Friday, Jan. 31, and he will be eligible to play in the Titans’ home game Feb. 1 vs. the University of Pacific.

Sow was suspended from the team on Dec. 17 after his arrest for petty theft from the campus bookstore. Counting tonight’s home game vs. Cal State Northridge, he will have missed 11 games. He last played on Dec. 14 vs. Idaho State.

“After reviewing the matter, it was decided that there was no real appeals issue,” said Robert Palmer, vice president for student affairs. “Coach Daniels had made a decision on the sanctions for Mr. Sow after his court appearance. This penalty was acceptable to the player. It is my hope that Mr. Sow will complete his court-appointed assignments in a timely fashion.”

The 6-foot-10 Sow, who is from Dakar, Senegal, averaged 15.9 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds during the first seven games of the season as the Titans posted a 1-6 record. In his absence, the Titans have gone 4-6.

“ Hopefully, Pape understands the severity of his actions,” said Daniels. “Now he starts the process of re-inventing his status on the campus and in the community. I am confident that with the help he is getting, he will be a better person. Our primary focus has been that he get the necessary help to avoid a reoccurrence and continue his education.”

Sow will not be available to the media until after Saturday night’s game vs. Pacific.
