Charles Mitchell broke a 1-1 tie with about 10 minutes to play Wednesday night as Cal State Northridge beat Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, in Big West Conference men's soccer action.

The win improved the Matadors' record to 10-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Big West. The Titans saw their 4-game unbeaten streak end and their record fall to 6-7-2 and 2-2-1.

Mitchell received a cross in stride from Jesse Servin on a two-on-one break and beat helpless Titan goalkeeper Sam Reynolds from near the top of the box, straight out, at 79:51.

The Titans had tied the match in the 62nd minute when Hector Orellana's free kick from about 25 yards trickled into the goal after Matadors' keeper Joe Barton got a hand on it. Barton made a total of 8 saves including stopping several one-on-one attempts by Fullerton. Reynolds was equally brilliant, making 9 saves including two back-to-back at point-blank range with about 15 minutes remaining.

Cal State Northridge took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Servin scored from the goal mouth, converting a crisp cross from the left side from Will Beard at 27:37.

Fullerton visits UC Irvine on Saturday night while the Matadors host UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
